Zawadi Sulubu

Hearing Impaired
Zawadi_salubu_full Zawadi is actually Swahili for “gift.” Since she started school late in life, she is only in first grade. She has been learning sign language at a rapid pace and can even read lips. Imagine how difficult is was for her to never be able to communicate with those around her before attending the Hearing Impaired Unit at Gede Special School. Her parents are very poor-- and therefore--when she is at home she often goes without adequate food. It is especially difficult for her parents to meet the needs of her family since Zawadi has 6 brothers and 3 sisters. At the Gede Special School, she gets three meals a day, a bed to sleep in, along with other children to play with and help her with her sign language skills. In addition, Zawadi loves traditional dancing and is learning some English words as she learns to write. Zawadi enjoys school and appreciates your help. If you would like to send anything to her, she would especially enjoy receiving a toothbrush, shoes, toilet paper, and clothes.
