Samuel is a 17 year old young man who suffers weak lower limbs as a result of contracting polio at a very young age. When Samuel was young he used to crawl to school since he could not walk. Through the physical therapist, funded by Kupenda, Samuel was able to do exercises that strengthened his legs and enabled him to walk. He also used to have a lot of pain in his waist. His parents are both peasant farmers and make very little money to support Samuel and his 6 brothers. Therefore Samuel often goes without enough to eat on a daily basis. In spite of Samuel’s difficult circumstances he has managed to go to school but has been unable to do well because he lacks textbooks and adequate nutrition. He dreams of being a special need teacher because he has seen people like him suffering and wants to help them.
