Nelson is a 17 year old young man with minor mental retardation as a result of his cerebral palsy. He is without proper education. He was in school at one time but had to withdraw because his mother was uncooperative. The Kupenda Kenya director visits often to encourage her to allow the boy to go to school and educate her on the fact that he can learn if given the chance. The family is very poor. Both parents are simple peasant farmers earning less than one dollar per day. If given sponsorship perhaps their attitude towards their special needs child will change and he will be able to join school.
