Mumba is a little boy who is deaf. This is the result of contracting malaria when he was an infant. Unfortunately about 80% of deafness in Kenya is the result of preventable causes such as this. His parents try to care for their 5 children by farming their small plot of land but have difficulty meeting the needs of their family. Their only income comes from selling small amounts of food grown on their land in addition to what small amounts they use to feed themselves. |
