Zawadi Karisa is a twelve year old girl suffering from hearing loss and believed to have some mental impairment since birth. Zawadi lives in a mud hut with a grass roof with a widowed single mother and five siblings. Zawadi understands Swahili and Giriama and is currently learning English and sign language. Zawadi enjoys playing with toys and interacting with other children. Because Zawadi was raised by a single mother with five other siblings Zawadi’s mother has faced much difficulties and has not been able to afford to provide the child with her basic needs. Currently, Zawadi is in need of sponsorship for her education that would allow her to receive the specialized education she would need in order for her to achieve her fullest potential. Because Zawadi has not had any schooling for the past twelve years Zawadi will be entering school with children much younger than her at a nursery school level which is necessary for Zawadi to properly understand and communicate.
